Microsoft Office Live Workspace is open for limited registrations.It seems they now do the pre registration and service will be live after some time.Office live is a integrated service from windows to use .doc, .xls files online.

But currently its open only for US users .

1by1 is a free light weight mp3 music player software for PC .Unique feature about this player is that its total size is just 106KB [ver 1.62] and it can play music files in the directory folder. Music can be played even when the system is damn slow.

Doostang in India

I signed up with Doostang [Invitation based social networking site] when i was in Europe .

Well after coming back to india , i tried logging in to doostang .But now i couldnt even access the home page .I could get only the page as displayed here .

I think they might have blocked users from India using GeoLocation based IP Filtering .In Usability point of view website interface is worst for mobile users originating from countries like india,where doostang is not operational .I e-mailed about this to doostang team, but till now no reply :( .

Good solution for this to block registrations for users from india, instead of blocking service/home page for people travelling/residing in india . Atleast home page should be displayed.

Windows live writer new beta version has been released.

It has extended support to blogger platform with new image upload feature .Image upload is linked to google picasa.

For blog post with images and rich editing in blogger platform , this is a perfect blogging software .

Unfortunately it takes long time for installation . Installation has options to select windows products like photo gallery , messenger , mail , toobar , family safety .I tried selecting photo gallery .It took me nearly 30 minutes for installation .

I still wonder why microsoft windows products why take such a long time for online installations ..i wish they could mention time of complete installation.

Today i signed into my yahoo photos service and tried to transfer photos to other services like shutterfly or snapfish. But i noticed few things which are opposite to what i read in help articles

1. Yahoo India photos service closes by 18October ;)

PIC : Yahoo photos - Alert Message

2.There is no option to transfer photos from yahoo india photos services to other third party photo services .Only available option is FLICKR :( .

PIC : Yahoo help - Transfer Yahoo Photos

PIC : Yahoo photos - Only option to select Flickr service.

3.Lot of mismatch between yahoo photos help and yahoo india service .

PIC : Yahoo photos - India and US .

I felt Yahoo india should give option to transfer photos to other third party services rather than Flickr . I think YAHOO INDIA operations are completely different from Yahoo US services :(.

I think there is no blog editor as simple as scribefire.

It has many advantages compared to other publishing softwares .

1. Very lightweight [ Eats very very less memory ]
2. Easy to use interface via web browser. [ No need to start any software exe files ]
3. Easy preview and editing features .[Easy tab like interface]

But it doesnt have any auto save facility and tagging facilities supporting websites like icerocket etc... [ Currently it supports technorati , del.icio.us ].

In current version , there is defect related with closing button has been detected .
Scribefire doesnt have any close button , so " F8" needs to be used to close the active window in firefox . [ SEE THE PICTURE BELOW ]

Adding Google Sitemap for Blogger

There is no efficient way to add google web sitemap for blogger.com

Only way is to append rss.xml at the end of the blogger url .

For example :

To add web sitemap for my blog (http://lazytechie.blogspot.com) , i need to give input as

"http://lazytechie.blogspot.com/rss.xml"

But the worst part is that only last 25 posts will be indexed by google.

Remember comments in thie 25 posts are not included.

NOTE: Blogger Beta/New users dont use the feed url

"http://yourblogname.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/full" for sitemap.

Rss version for this above feed url can be obtained by adding ?alt=rss it

will be "http://yourblogname.blogspot.com/feeds/posts/full?alt=rss"

Yahoo site explorer now allows SITE AUTHENTICATION using "META TAGS".Earlier users can authenticate only by uploading text file with the generated code , but now using meta tags there will be no delay or problems.

Infact it was a known fact that yahoo ' s competitor "Google" (Site maps - webmaster tools) was the first to introduce site authentication using "metatags" .

[Initially blogger had problems with google site maps since "raw html template editing" was not allowed .Metatags can be added easily in new blogger version ]

Yahoo has introduced (a service) a badge to display the number of links (live) to the site or page . It is just a copy paste code to be inserted , very cool and nice to look at .

Google has integrated Orkut with youtube and google videos .Now
all orkut users can add their favourite videos from you tube and google videos to their page .All the added videos can be seen in user's page titled as "VIDEOS" .

But the bad thing is that there is no inbuilt browsing capability to add videos directly from youtube or google videos , eventhough youtube and google videos are part of Google Enterprise .

User need to add the URL manually as shown in the above picture .

Performancing .com (Parent of Performancing blog editing tool) is having bad times .Metrics which was set for a big deal failed few weeks back .And now CEO Nick has resigned his post and Chris took over it .It is also planned to make Metrics - a Open source tool.Performancing has also stopped the AD Publisher Network .And there will be no more networking ads in publisher sites .The only survivor is Performancing Firefox plugin linked in the unfinished scribefire website.

Hope performancing will have a big year ahead with metrics .

Recently it was found that if gmail user is online his gmail contacts can be viewed/imported in any webpage .

According to Zdnet , google has fixed it but only partially .

Any hacker can easily take advantages of these issues if remain unnoticed .Hope soon gmail comes out of its beta version .

I noticed something different with my gmail homepage .Yups my gmail homepage is showing 2800 megabytes fixed size.I could not see the counter increasing .May be google is doing lots of updates and bug fixes .

I came across an article about myspace intention to enter india in social networking .

But after clicking the terms of service link i found that it was due to transition of all old blogger accounts to new blogger with GOOGLE ACCOUNTs as login id .

[ I am a proud user of meebome for longtime and still i am using it in my blog . Even though i am user of wengo , i prefer meebome coz it gives more importance to text messaging than video/voice calls .And wengo visio is more oriented towards calls than messaging I feel wengo visio is introduced to have a support for WDEAL (a wengo service) ]

Unfortunately for new users trial deal is reduced to .50 euro cents (Initially it was around 2 euros per signup).But i really appreciate their marketing strategy when wengo was very new to VOIP it introduced this trial feature and it is still maintaining it .Infact during months of august and september they introduced limited time free calls to some countries .Even calls to landlines in india was free for sometime ( a good marketing strategy ).I registered to wengo when limited free calls to indian landlines were allowed .And am still using wengo to call back my friends in india because of its cheap prices .But beware there is a tradeoff between cost and quality .Wengo is of moderate quality sometimes and lesser cost than skype to many locations !
So i would suggest people to use SKYPE if they want the best connection and voice quality like a real phone .

Publishing to a single entry to different blogs hosted in different blog platforms is a tedious job.Generally users can post the entry by using a offline blog tool like performancing ,
windows live writer etc..(or) by publishing through respective blog host web interfaces

There is a beta service to make publishing more easier .Just by sending email to the service id ,the users can publish contents to the blog .Just the blog

I tried myself BlogMailr with blogger BETA , but unfortunately it is not
supported .Only old blogger accounts are supported .

I also tested mail-to-blogger address feature in blogger BETA .It seems mine is working :).My test post .But it takes a lot of time to get updated in blog .May be BlogMailr should work fine ,if they support blogger BETA .

I came across a digg entry originally submitted in netscape social portal .It was an article titled "Top Digg Users Are Getting Paid By a PR Firm"- very interesting and a controversial one by jason . [ Jason was none other than ex employee of aol ]

From his post and comments i feel digg has become the main target tool for marketing by spammers .But digg entry has more comments quoting this article as a false one and non accurate .Another article from news.com gives more information about how social digging is used as a marketing tool.

Important thing to note is that if digg fails in future then gradually it will lead to the failure of other social web portals like netscape .It might have a adverse effect of people losing interest in social news aggregations .

Google blogger web editor without technorati tags

Today after a long time i used google blogger web editor to create new post .Generally i used blogger web interface only for few times .I was quite happy with performancing firefox plugin except for its unavailable support of uploading pictures to blogger accounts .

I personally feel that it would be nice if in future blogger web editor supports TECHNORATI tags for posts .Since web editor currently does not have any support for technorati , i created technorati tags using online web tags generator .Infact i knew there was a site named oddiopile providing javascript bookmark which can be used to embed tags .But unfortunately site was offline when i clicked the link .Oddiopile provided javascript which can be used to create technorati tags .

Luckily after some google search i got the javascript for generating technorati tags from consuming experience .This weblog has detailed description about howto create tags for technorati using grease monkey and other online internet services .Weblog also mentions about another online tag generator .

Anyways all the credits goes to the site oddiopile whose javascript code is used in many webpages .

Currently blogger web editor supports only LABELS for post as shown here in this picture .

I found gmail is allowing pictures received in email to be viewed in a webpage(with all pictures arranged).

Google has shut down their google answers service .But i wonder why did they shut down their service .May be it might not be very popular ,but it was very informative , had quality and google brand name.In my opnion they should have convert it to free service .And could have did some research and usability study by introducing it as free answers service .Infact it might take up some time to get good result.But it will bring them many new users asking the questions .And answers being provided by researchers from google inc.Since answers are quite straigt forward and QUICK ,there will be lot of user base visiting for fast answers.Infact for any product quality matters the most than anything .And for google answers , answers from researchers gave the best quality support .Even though questions asked may be quite bad or good .

Simply google answers - "For the users, by the researchers".

Aol is offering today its users to download selected free video movies .I tried to login with my aol screen name and download MI III .But unfortunately it is only for US users

Infact i felt there are lots of difficulties for users to download movies .

1.Users need to have IE version 6 (Latest IE 7 is not supported ).

Firefox users cant do anything with this site :(.It seems they will support firefox and IE7 in future .No details found about support for netscape .
